Kitchen and laundry facilities

Kitchen and laundry facilities are among the most important features of a fitter’s apartment. While a hotel room does not offer these amenities, they are indispensable for fitter accommodation. Our own kitchen allows self-sufficiency and saves considerable costs for longer stays. Washing facilities ensure that work clothes can be cleaned regularly without having to visit a laundromat. Especially in multi-day or multi-week assignments, these two aspects make the decisive difference between acceptable and comfortable living. This text explains which equipment in the kitchen and laundry room is standard and what tenants should pay attention to when booking.

The fully equipped kitchen

Do fitters have a kitchen and laundry facilities? In the case of reputable landlords, the answer is clearly: Yes. A fully equipped kitchen is the heart of any good fitter’s apartment. It consists of several essential components that together enable real self-sufficiency.

The stove with oven forms the basis for cooking. Modern fitter apartments usually have ceramic hobs with four panels that enable fast and energy-efficient cooking. The oven underneath is important for pizza, casseroles or frying. An extractor hood is also part of the standard equipment so that cooking smells don’t get stuck in the whole apartment.

The refrigerator is another core element. In the case of fitter apartments for several people, it should be correspondingly large. An XL fridge with freezer compartment offers enough space for food and allows larger purchases in stock. Some landlords even equip the kitchen with an additional freezer, especially for long-term rentals.

The microwave has become standard. It allows you to quickly warm up leftovers or prepare simple meals after a long day at work. Not everyone has the energy to cook in the evening.

Coffee maker and kettle are also standard equipment. For many craftsmen, the day begins with a coffee, and these devices allow for a quick morning routine.

Cookware and utensils

A kitchen is only as good as its equipment and cooking utensils. Professional landlords make sure that everything necessary is available in sufficient quantities. Pots of different sizes, at least two pans and casserole dishes form the basis for cooking.

Dishes and cutlery must be available for the maximum number of people in the apartment. A fitter’s apartment for four people should have at least four large plates, four small plates, four bowls and four cups. The same applies to cutlery – knives, forks, spoons should be available several times so that you don’t have to rinse immediately after every meal.

Glasses of different sizes are also included. Water glasses, wine glasses and possibly beer glasses make it possible to relax pleasantly after work. Kitchen utensils such as cutting boards, knives, ladles, spatulas and can openers are also important. A tea towel and dish towels should also be provided.

Some landlords even provide a basic set of spices, oil and vinegar. Although this is not a standard, tenants appreciate it, especially for shorter stays.

Laundry facilities on site

The question of washing facilities is crucial for longer stays. Workwear becomes dirty and needs to be washed regularly. A washing machine in the apartment is ideal and is standard in many modern fitter apartments.

The washing machine should have sufficient capacity. Machines with a capacity of 7 to 8 kilograms are suitable for four people. Modern devices with different washing programs allow the cleaning of different textiles.

The washing machine is not always right in the apartment. Some landlords provide communal washing machines in the basement or in a separate washroom. This is particularly common in older buildings where not every apartment has water connections for a machine. The use should then be regulated fairly, often there is a washing plan.

Detergent is sometimes available, but tenants usually have to get it themselves. This should be clarified before arrival. The question of whether the use of the washing machine is included in the rental price or has to be paid for extra should also be clarified in advance.

Drying the laundry

After washing, the laundry must be dried. Drying racks or laundry spiders are standard equipment of good fitter apartments. Ideally, there is a balcony, a terrace or a drying room where the laundry can be hung up. In the apartment itself, the laundry should only be dried with good ventilation to avoid mold growth.

Tumble dryers are less common, but are found in higher-quality accommodation. They are practical in winter or in bad weather when air drying is difficult.

Practical tips for tenants

Before booking, you should specifically ask about the kitchen equipment. Not every fitter’s apartment is equally well equipped. Especially if you plan to cook regularly, it is worth checking whether all the necessary equipment and utensils are available.

When it comes to washing facilities, it is important to clarify whether the washing machine needs to be belonged exclusively to the apartment or shared. The question of detergent and any additional costs should also be clarified in advance. Some landlords charge a flat rate for the use of the washing machine, others charge according to actual use.

For longer stays, a fitter’s apartment with a washing machine is recommended, as this makes everyday life considerably easier. Regular trips to the laundromat not only cost money, but also valuable free time. A well-equipped kitchen and own washing facilities make a fitter’s apartment a real temporary home.
